beforehand, i was given a group of items, posters, postcards, news clippings and added my personal touch to it...and she loved it!...they all loved it and i was proud to have created it for them...what an honor!..

we were also given a red ribbon for HIV Awareness and a WOV button to wear...here is a little write up the center did for this group of beautiful women:

Red has an unmistakable, alluring mystery about it. Its boldness draws your emotions and often entices celebration. Come see the color red take form as Women of Visions, Inc. (WOV) presents “Living Red: Are you Feelin’ Me,” an exhibition of striking visual works created by the members of WOV. This exhibition will explore the artists’ personal journey, history, and memory of the color red as it relates to African American women artists living and working in America. The work produced will be of a diverse sampling of vivid artistic styles and media including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, fiber, and jewelry. Each artist expresses their personal interpretation of how the color red related to them.

WOV, founded in 1981, is a Pittsburgh-based visual arts collective of African American women visual artists that share a common interest and passion for their art and history by promoting and educating the community and women artists around the world. This organization mounts collaborative exhibitions with museums, corporations, individuals and arts groups regionally and nationally. They have also published their own exhibition catalogs, posters, publications and are the proud producer of 3 symposiums, and most recently, the Migrations of the African Diaspora Film Series.

Part of the Global Traditions Series sponsored by: AEP, Ohio

The WOV are amazing. Glad you shared your experience. I was selected to show with them in their art exhibition a couple of years ago. Not only are they very talented, they are gracious.

They are role models for other women of every stripe.

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's sizeBut when I start to tell them,They think I'm telling lies.I say,It's in the reach of my armsThe span of my hips,The stride of my step,The curl of my lips.I'm a womanPhenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That's me.I walk into a roomJust as cool as you please,And to a man,The fellows stand orFall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me,A hive of honey bees.I say,It's the fire in my eyes,And the flash of my teeth,The swing in my waist,And the joy in my feet.I'm a womanPhenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That's me.Men themselves have wonderedWhat they see in me.They try so muchBut they can't touchMy inner mystery. When I try to show themThey say they still can't see.I say,It's in the arch of my back,The sun of my smile,The ride of my breasts,The grace of my style.I'm a womanPhenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That's me.Now you understandJust why my head's not bowed.I don't shout or jump aboutOr have to talk real loud. When you see me passingIt ought to make you proud.I say,It's in the click of my heels,The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand,The need of my care,'Cause I'm a womanPhenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That's me.
